Acoustic Blend and new Thornfield recordings!

One of the things that I love about our church is that we enthusiastically support the Arts. We sponsor an art gallery, which I mentioned in this post about that art show opening by Makoto Fujimura. And it’s not just about the visual arts–our church loves music too. Our church sponsors 4 yearly concerts in Chicago: Fall Blues, Jazz and Java, Christmas on the Town, and Acoustic Blend. This Friday October 14th is the Acoustic Blend concert, organized by my friend and fellow band-member Carrie. It’s happening at a great little venue called The Tapestry (3824 W. Irving Park Rd). The music starts at 7:30 pm and there’s an optional $5 cover. Steve from CityGrounds is providing hot beverages gratis–thanks Steve!!

As you may have guessed, I’ll be singin’, guitar-playin’, and egg-shakin’ along with a plethora of other (fabulous) musicians. So if you’re in Chi-town, come on out for an awesome event! Here’s the facebook event page for more details.

The air has a chill and the leaves are turning… perfect weather for a folk night out!

Come and enjoy a flavorful blend of folk and other singer-songwriter styles of music! Acoustic Blend, the folk arm of Holy Trinity Church’s fusion concert series, will be an enchanting night full of opportunities to connect with America’s musical roots, as well as a few of its current budding shoots.

Swing along to the back porch Appalachian music of sisters Amy Floweree and Rachel Dawson and tap your toes to the fiddle of Matthew Carlson. Savor the soulful blues/roots inspired, eclectic guitars of Petras. Unwind to the sweet harmonies of Thornfield (Carrie and Eric Pazdziora + Jenna Satterthwaite), and the euphonious talents of some of Chicago’s finest musicians, including Jonathan Gilley, Jon Lin and Graham Nelson. We expect even more, so you don’t want to miss it!

Looking forward to “folking out” with you!

 Also, Eric just posted some new recordings from our band (not professional recordings, though we’d love to do that soon–just some live GarageBand captures from recent gigs). “Sunrise” (by Carrie) is one of my favorite new ones, and we may be performing it at Acoustic Blend. Enjoy!

Love is Home

We have high hopes of doing a ‘real’ (i.e. non-GarageBand) recording at some point soon-ish, but in the meantime check out this new recording from our last gig at CityGrounds.

Love is Home

Love is the part, and love is the whole;
Love is the robe, and love is the pall;
Ruler of heart and mind and soul,
Love is the lord and the slave of all!
I thank thee, Love, that thou lov’st me;
I thank thee more that I love thee.

Love is the sun, and love is the sea;
Love is the tide that comes and goes;
Flowing and flowing it comes to me;
Ebbing and ebbing to thee it flows!
Oh my sun, and my wind, and tide!
My sea, and my shore, and all beside!

Love is the rain, and love is the air,
Love is the earth that holdeth fast;
Love is the root that is buried there,
Love is the open flower at last!
I thank thee, Love all round about,
That the eyes of my love are looking out.
