Pack it up, pack it in

Our apartment, 17 days away from our move date, has become a sea of boxes.

My baby made some amazing packing progress while I was off falderalling in Wisconsin with my sister Erica and extended family.

Closets are being emptied, and we’re using the linen closet to keep the things we want to carry over with us separately–tool boxes, some clothing and the like.

My wonderful devotional corner is no longer exactly the haven of peace and sunlight and window-gazing that it used to be . . .

but I say:

Stack ’em to the heavens!

One huge plus of moving right before baby Alice joins us: I won’t have to deep clean our new place! Because (presumably) it will be clean to begin with. That alone makes this painful de-nesting extravaganza pretty darn worth it.

Not to mention the in-unit washer and dryer the mere idea of which sends me into a frenzy of happiness.

Packing. It’s where we’re at.

Not long now. It will be nice to get settled into your new place and get Alice’s room all cozy and ready for her. As for the washer and dryer, with baby clothes soon to need washing you will really be thankful for them!

Jenna, I have no doubt you’ll find an equally inspiring corner to gaze out the window in your new apartment. (Make it a top priority, if it isn’t already!) Looks like things are progressing nicely for your move. We moved 5 times in 10 years (6, counting living out of the truck with everything stashed in a storage building for several months, ha!), and unpacking the last box was a highlight EVERY time. Best wishes and be sure to take frequent breaks!

= frolicking, cavorting about, flitting here and there, etc. =)

17 days! Seems so long yet so short a time. Glad that it’s happening with enough time to spare to get the new place ready for Alice. I’m sure you can’t wait. And I’m eager for pics! 🙂

Wow!!! You’re a lot further in the process than I was 17 days before! Which is good. 😉 Can’t wait to see pics of your new place and your IN-UNIT WASHER AND DRYER! WOOT!!!

I know–I can’t wait to see the place either, since I don’t really remember what exactly it looked like. =)

I have moved close to 20 times as an adult. The most important thing I have learned is to label one box “Unpack Me First.” Inside of it, have a set of sheets/bedding/pillows/mattress bed, toilet paper, towels, hand/body soap, shower curtain, and anything that you know you will need right away. As soon as your bed frame and mattress are in place in your new bedroom, make your bed . . . first thing. At the end of a long, hard day, you will be so grateful to have a made bed to drop into. If you don’t do it first, you may end up crashing on an unmade bed. Good luck in your move and love that washer and dryer!

YES! We are definitely doing both of those things. We have learned the importance of the “unpack me first” box (or boxes) with toilet paper and the likes. Great advice.
