The dregs

After writing everything I wanted to about our Alaska vacation, I was left with a handful of random shots–the dregs of the cup of coffee that was Alaska, so to speak. They don’t form a coherent story, but let’s see what we got.

Ooooh–the flowers. They grow so big. I wonder if I sat out in the strong Alaskan summer sun all day long if I would also grow big.

I’ll make a mental note never to do that, just in case.

The little rubber band wrists of a small sicky resting on the larger hand of a big sicky. Both of the boys got colds around the same time, and rested together in the rocking chair. A sweeter sight has never been seen.

This was amazing–front page Fairbanks news boasts a large picture of a bird flying. Newsflash! Newsflash! Bird spotted flying over body of water!

What a unique moment in the daily affairs of Alaska–not.

The railroad somewhere during our Fairbanks to Anchorage road trip.

The boys, renewing each others’ acquaintance on day one.

Checkin’ each other out. Well, his face is kind of hairy . . .

. . . but I guess he’ll have to do.

Plants by the side of the road . . .

Joyful jumping!

Shots of the dramatic mountains from the rear view mirror . . .

And a very foggy mountain.

And that is it. Phew. I can’t believe I’ve been talking about Alaska for 2 months. Blessings upon each one of you for sticking with me during this gift that keeps on giving.

Have a great Monday, every one! Less dregs and more coherency for the rest of the week. Maybe.

Though on second thought, I wouldn’t count on it.

I think the dregs are some of the best parts! Especially when they’re accompanied by hysterical Jenna commentary. And cute babies.

Those are beautiful.. makes me want to go to Alaska even more than I wanted to before!

And James is just to die for. Those eyes!! Those cheeks!! Those little tiny fingers!

I know. We skyped with Heidi and James last night, and his cheeks are still the most fatty, delightful things around.

Jenna, that first shot is beauteous. It’s funny that what one person sees as a stand alone story someone else sees as not fitting into the larger narrative.

I took over a thousand pictures when we went to Alaska this summer. Sadly, my camera was throwing a fit and only about 10% were worth keeping. But I love each and every one of them.

Are you going to share some of your Alaska pics on your blog? Because I would LOVE to see them–even the ones taken during the fit-throwing of your camera.

The pictures of “los boys”!! The little hands and the big hands, their “lookin’ at the camera – eyes” shot…. Wonderful! And the scenery! You can keep up dregging around for more anytime!!

The pictures are amazing! My dregs have never looked so good. The picture of the boys hand in the chair resting is so wonderful! Thank you for sharing!

Even your dregs are superb! What artfully fantastic photographs! Aaaa, I love your talent. So when you said “boys” and “big sicky” is that your husband or your sister’s husband? I noticed he wasn’t in any of the photos…is he the one that’s a soldier? I thought that was the middle sister. And please bring the “notify me of follow-up comments” box back! I never remember to check otherwise.

The boys are my husband and little James, and they both had stuffy noses and colds. =( Heidi’s husband is deployed, and so is Erica’s! Yep, both my sisters married army men, and they both deployed at the almost the same time, though one to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. Mike (Heidi’s husband) is due to return soon since Obama is bringing all the troops in Iraq home for the holidays–woohoo!
I’m adding the ‘notify me of follow up comments’ to the list of things to fix–thanks for bringing it to my attention!!

Jenna, this was a delightful hodgepodge — from breathtaking flowers and scenery, to baby cheeks, to being YOU (loved the jumping for joy shots!) — you’re an entertaining tour guide! 🙂
